Why I Create a Wedding Mood Board With My Wedding Couples

Every wedding is different.

As a wedding photographer, I never want to walk into a wedding day and simply take the same photographs I took at the last one. Your wedding should be personal to you, and your photographs should reflect that.

That's why, before every wedding, I like to spend time getting to know my couples and understanding exactly what they have envisioned for their big day.

Getting to Know You Before the Wedding

Before I pick up my camera, I want to know more than just your wedding date and venue.

I want to know you.

What have you been dreaming about? What colours have you chosen? What flowers do you love? What will your dress look like? What is the groom wearing? Are there particular details you've spent months choosing?

Perhaps you've created Pinterest boards, saved Instagram posts or collected photographs that capture the feeling you're hoping to create.

I love seeing all of this.

It gives me an insight into what you love and, more importantly, what is important to you.

Creating Your Wedding Mood Board

One of the things I love doing with my couples is creating a wedding mood board.

This isn't about telling you how your wedding should look. It's about understanding your vision.

We can bring together inspiration for your colour palette, flowers, bridal style, groom's attire, venue styling, details, lighting and overall atmosphere.

Maybe your wedding is full of soft, romantic tones and beautiful florals.

Maybe it's modern and sophisticated.

Perhaps you're planning a relaxed countryside wedding with lots of greenery and natural textures.

You might wonder what a mood board has to do with photography.

Actually, quite a lot.

Understanding your style allows me to think about how I will photograph your day before I even arrive at your wedding.

The details you've chosen can influence how I photograph your morning preparations, your dress and accessories, your flowers, your ceremony and your reception.

The colours, textures and atmosphere you've carefully created can all become part of your photographs.

It also helps me understand the type of images you are naturally drawn to.

The Little Details Matter

After months — sometimes years — of planning, there will be so many little details that you won't necessarily notice on the day.

That's why getting to know you before your wedding is such an important part of my photography process.

Creating a mood board is just the beginning.

It's a chance for us to sit down, talk about your plans, share ideas and get excited about your wedding day together.

Then, when the big day arrives, I already have a picture in my mind of what you've created.

I can focus on the details you've carefully chosen, the atmosphere you've created and, most importantly, the genuine moments happening between you and the people you love.
